Our Calendar
January
- The Annual "Making You Warm" Raffle. Kiwanis raffles off 300 gallons of home heating oil and a
hand-crafted quilt. The $2.00 chances are sold until the drawing in mid-February.
February
- Mid-Winter Social. Kiwanians & guests gather for an evening of fun and friendship,
March
- New England District Mid-Winter Conference. Kiwanians from the six New England States and Bermuda
gather for a weekend conference with education & training programs.
- Maple Sunday Breakfast. In conjunction with the Homecoming Committee a Breakfast with eggs, meats,
pancakes and locally harvested Maple Syrup is offered at the Dover-Foxcroft Fire House and Kiwanians help
serve, sell chances and most importantly, clean up.
April
- Kiwanis One Day of Service - This year we will be at Thayer Parkway for an ice cream social.
- "Skip-A-Meal". Kiwanis clubs throughout the world hold their regular weekly meeting, paying for the
meal they normally have, but no food is served. The proceeds are donated to the Kiwanis International
Foundation which provides grants for needy projects world-wide. Last year over $26,000 was raised by this
Program.
- The 36th Annual Piscataquis River Canoe Raceis held on the last Saturday in April.
May
- Annual Election of Officers and Directors. The annual meetings of the Kiwanis Club and
Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Charities is held on the first Tuesday in May.
- Annual Thayer Parkway Cookout. Kiwanis hosts a cookout for all the senior Residents of Thayer
Parkway. The cookout is held on the 3rd Wednesday in May.
- May - Child Safety Day and Bicycle Safety Rodeo - Kiwanis sponsors a bicycle rodeo at the
YMCA parking lot for children in grades 1 through 4. Every 2nd grade student in MSAD #68 is given a bike helmet
at no cost by Kiwanis. Other child safety issues are brought to the children in the classroom including fire
and home safety.
June
- Eastern Maine Soap Box Derby. Kiwanis sponsors two cars in the Soap Box Derby and recruits students
from SeDoMoCha Middle School to be crew and drivers. The event is held annually in Bangor.
- Official Governor's Visit which Kiwanians are invited to partake.
- Kiwanis Park Work Day. Kiwanians work in Kiwanis Park cleaning up the area, checking the safety of
playground equipment and planting the gardens.
- Annual Kiwanis International Convention
July
- Annual Auction. The last Thursday, Friday and Saturday of July . Kiwanis runs a three-day Auction
with raffles, prizes, a Bargain barn, book and appliance barn and the auction. It runs Thursday 6-9 p.m.,
Friday, 6-9 pm and Saturday from 3 to closing with a bean supper being served.
- Red Cross Blood Drive - in July. Kiwanis sponsors with the Red Cross, a blood drive held at the
YMCA. Kiwanis helps find donors, assists with registrations and serves refreshments.
August
- Dover-Foxcroft Homecoming Day- The First Saturday in August. Kiwanis is a huge supporter of
Dover-Foxcroft's Homecoming. They have a float in the parade, and many Kiwanis members are principals in the
planning and organizing of the day's activities.
- New England District Convention
October
- Installation of Officers and Directors and Awards night .
- Thayer Parkway Annual Boiled Dinner on Wednesday, October Kiwanis hosts a traditional boiled dinner
for all the senior residents of Thayer Parkway, served at no cost to the residents.
- New England District Governor's Official Visit. Annually the New England District of Kiwanis
Governor visits the clubs of the region.
- Terrific Kids October will be our first in a series of Terrific Kids programs at the new Sedomocha
School. We will recognize students for meeting their goals to be caring, considerate, helpful, patient and
respectful.
- Kiwanis Park Clean-up Day. Members volunteer their time to rake leaves, trim trees, put the gardens
to bed and do general park maintenance to prepare the Park for winter.
November
- The annual Christmas Project. Kiwanis solicits community organizations, Churches, individuals and
businesses to adopt-a-child for Christmas. The adopting sponsor is provided the age, gender, clothing sizes,
and special interests, and the adopter purchases needed items as gifts for the child. In 2007, 104 children in
MSAD #68 were assisted. Visit our Christmas Project web page.
- District Fall Training Conference will be in November.
December
- Terrific Kids Awards. Kiwanis recognizes students of Sedomocha School each month for meeting their
goals to be caring, considerate, helpful, patient and respectful. Over the school year, all students are
awarded a Terrific Kid certificate.
