Annual Community Christmas Project
Children can be adopted through the month of November
with gifts being dispersed to the families in mid-December.
As we work together as a caring community,
every child can look forward to a merry Christmas.
The combined efforts of many are needed to make the Kiwanis Christmas Project successful. The first snowflake of the season may have just fallen, but the Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft is already beginning its planning for this year's Christmas Project. Letters will soon be going out to those folks, churches, businesses and clubs who generously "adopted" children last year.
The Club gets a lot of credit for helping the local kids at Christmas and they couldn't succeed without the many members of the community who donate their time, talent and monetary donations to safeguard that every child's name received is provided for at Christmas. The Kiwanis Club works in conjunction with Penquis, which acts as a clearinghouse for the local communities in the area.
Applications for the Christmas Project, or Santa Project as it is also known, are available through Penquis and the children who fall within the RSU 68 school area are forwarded to the Dover-Foxroft Kiwanis Club for "adoption". Children falling within other school districts are forwarded to the local organization fulfilling needs for those areas.
The combined efforts of many are needed to make each Christmas Project successful and as in past years, the need is great. December 15, 201368 families were served this year totaling 128 kids. New Balance again donated sneakers and sports apparel for a total of $5570. Pleasant River Lumber made their annual donation of $2500. Masons from Abner Wade lodge in Sangerville again donated a turkey dinner to all the families that picked up their gifts on Sat. John Leavitt collected personal care items all year for the teenagers that are so difficult to buy for at Christmas. Their bags always seem less full than those of our younger kids but due to John's generosity we are able to put additional items in.
Toy drives were held by the United Biker's of Maine, WDME and Sherry French, and Hill Top Manor and Pleasant Meadows Retirement homes.
This year we had more children adopted than in prior years. 100 children were sponsored by "adopters" with the Kiwanis Club of D-F sponsoring 26. Also we had 16 Kiwanians adopt a total of 27 children, including the 4 sponsored by TheFoxcroft Academy Key Club.
Well over 300 hours were volunteered to pull off this project!! In just over a months time!!

Sponsor a needy child this year and make Christmas merry and bright for that child! It's easy to do! Ask for a child's name and a list of wished for needs will be provided. Easy peasy. Then shop for the items listed and bring them back to Kiwanis. Parents pick them up mid-Dec. Please help if you can - we have a a lot of kids this year!"

On Saturday, December 15th, The Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft distributed gifts and food to area families. The Annual Christmas Project this year included 138 Children in 68 families, who were provided with gifts, coats, boots, hats, sneakers, and a Christmas Turkey dinner. 91 children were 'adopted' and the Christmas Project supplied items for the remaining 47 children. The Mason's of Sangerville provided the food for all families. The Club purchased boots for all the kids this year. Thanks to Kiwanis members Barb Austin, Rita Page, Pat Hinkley, Paul Raymond, Judy Raymond, Eddie Lewis, Owen Pratt, Jim Austin, Pat Ryan and all the Foxcroft Academy Key Club volunteers, and other volunteers, for their efforts in this on-going endeavor. The Abner Wade Masons’ organization from Sangerville supplied a turkey dinner for every family in the Christmas Project. New Balance Shoe Company in Skowhegan donated approximately $6,800 worth of shoes to our Project. Pleasant River Lumber Company and employees donated $2,500.
These donations were all very much appreciated.

Annual Community Christmas Project Information
Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft is coordinating the effort to request churches, civic goups, individuals and businesses to "adopt-a-child" by purchasing gifts for each child in need. The project will provide meaningful gifts to children (under the age of sixteen) in need, that are served by, or reside within, the MSAD#68 School District. This year we are working in conjunction with the Coats for Kids campaign to reduce our costs. We thank you for your support in the past, and are requesting you join our effort again this year to bring holiday joy to area youngsters by adopting one, or more children.
