As they say: “Oh What a Night!”  Thirty hearty souls braved the cold and arrived at the Bears Den on Tuesday night for the annual Winter Social.  Dover Kiwanis Club members were joined by three folks from the Dexter Club and two members of the Aktion Club as well as a short visit by Grace and Tim Hague’s daughter Amy.  We enjoyed great food served by the Den: grilled chicken strips, fried potatoes, barbequed sausage chunks, fresh vegetables, chips and dips with cookies and bars for dessert.

Cindy Woodworth had prepared a video presentation of the BackPack program and pictures from past Kiwanis dramatic presentations at Central Hall.  Narrated by Brian Woodworth, the video was enjoyed by all and helped everyone appreciate the value of both the BackPack Program and the Central Hall Restoration project.  Marilyn Hartford spoke about the current Community Matters More grant program from Bangor Savings Bank and distributed ballots to those who had not yet voted.  Among other worthy non-profits, the Dover Kiwanis BackPack Program is on the ballot this year.

The evening also featured several drawings.  David Clukey’s sister, Darlene Emery, won both the 50/50 and a door prize of a nice floral arrangement.  Glad to have such a great volunteer at the BackPack packing parties profit from purchasing plenty of potential prize passes. : )

Of course the mega drawing for the Winter Fuel Raffle winners was also held that night.  The three winners of 100 gallons of heating fuel each were David Shorey, Marie Vienneau and Michelle Nichols.  Congratulations to the winners and to Tim Hague for a superb job of managing all aspects of the raffle from ordering the tickets, finding members to sell tickets,  arranging the locations for sales, distributing tickets to members, delivering tables and chairs to the sales sites and countless other details that go into this successful fund raiser.

The finale of the evening was a rousing game of Kiwanis-style Family Feud.  David Clukey used his inimitable sense of humor to keep things hopping as he asked the members of the two teams to give the most frequent responses to various questions.  With President Dennis Lyford (Vanna?) posting the answers as they were given and Fran, Kevin and Susan on the Dexter team and Will, Rita and Jan on the Dover team the competition was fast and furious.  In the end a tie was called and a donation of $25 in the name of both teams was made to Project Eliminate.

(Bragging rights were claimed by all.)

The evening closed with singing Happy Birthday to Grace Hague ending a very fun evening with lots of laughs.  Thanks to all who thought up, set up, and cleaned up!

Cabin Fever was put in remission for a few days at least!
